My student struggles academically. What type of questions should my student ask college coaches about academic
services available to student-athletes?
It is appropriate to ask what types of academic support services are available to
student-athletes at prospective colleges and universities. BlueSpark recommends
inquiring about mandatory tutoring, academic advisement specific to the athletic
department, and mandatory study hall. If your student has an IEP in high school,
this will not carry over to the university setting, but can be used to help secure
accommodations at the universities Disability Office. Some typical accommodations
that student-athletes with a documented learning disability could receive include a
note-taker, testing in the Disability Office, and additional academic advisement.
